Advisory Board

Chain of Sounds is guided by some of the most respected names in the double bass world — performers, luthiers, engineers, and educators who bring decades of real-world expertise.

01
Danny Ziemann
Bassist & Educator

Internationally touring bassist and author of a Bass Method Book, Danny Ziemann brings a rare combination of performance experience and deep educational insight. He is passionate about the learning process and how technology can accelerate it.

Danny has a great interest and knowledge in MusicTech associated with the double bass — making him a natural fit at the intersection of sound, gear, and pedagogy that Chain of Sounds occupies.

02
Arnold Schnitzer
Master Luthier

World-renowned luthier Arnold Schnitzer earned degrees in bass and composition before studying instrument making and repair. He is a member of the faculty of the Violin Society of America's Oberlin Bass Workshop.

Arnold has made over 50 double basses currently played by members of leading Symphony Orchestras and professional ensembles around the world. He is also the author of The Handy Double Bass — available at a significant discount to Chain of Sounds subscriber supporters.

03
Richard Myron
Professor & Performer

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Richard Myron earned his B.Mus at the Juilliard School as a student of Homer Mensch and was awarded the Frederick Zimmermann Memorial Scholarship.

He is professor of contrabass and chamber music in the early music department of both the CRR de Paris and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. An internationally recognised leader in historic performance practice on contrabass and violone — as he puts it: "as a writer you have to know a lot of words, as a bassist you have to know a lot of sounds."

04
John van Lierop
Principal Bassist

A true global citizen — Principal Bass of Sinfonia Rotterdam and frequent guest principal in orchestras across Europe. John has taught at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Douglas Academy, and the University of Rio de Janeiro, and gives masterclasses worldwide.

Living in Sweden (might he be the Flying Dutchman?), John brings an impressive perspective on leading a bass section, combined with a deep knowledge of historic makers and instruments — exactly the combination Chain of Sounds values.

05
Göran Elmquist
Sound Engineer & Producer

The Sound of Silence master. Göran lives by his motto: "to get the most out of each effect with the least amount of noise or signal loss." A beta tester, hum & noise wizard, and the go-to voice on pedals, rack systems, and studio equipment.

Working as a producer, engineer, and guitarist, Göran has built a word-of-mouth reputation that speaks for itself. His obsessive knowledge of signal integrity makes him indispensable to a platform dedicated to the honest science of sound. (Welcome to the bass club, Göran!)

06
Pal Johnsson
Bassist & Luthier

Freelance bassist, luthier, and educator. With an impressive CV as both a recording and touring bass player, Pal has earned a reputation as a versatile performer across chamber music, big band, and the pop scene.

His many years on the road turned him towards sound improvement — and he is now also a sought-after bass luthier. That combined perspective of player and craftsman gives him unique insight into how instruments sound, age, and can be improved — exactly what Chain of Sounds is built on.
